The planning arguments needed to be compelling. They were underpinned by an exhaustive site selection process which showed that there were no suitable sites in the built up area of Buxton and that the only way to allow expansion of Buxton Water was a relocation to the edge of the town. It was demonstrated that the selected site was the most appropriate from a planning and operational perspective.
Having established the credentials of the new location, there was a collaborative process with High Peak Borough Council to ensure that the design of the new factory building was of the highest standard, particularly as it is viewed from the Peak District National Park.
The outcome is a building of some quality that sits comfortably in an open landscape setting. It has allowed Buxton Water to greatly expand its output and to operate in a far more efficient and sustainable way.
