Worley Field, Cheshire

Lying on a 3-acre plot within the Bolesworth Estate and the Tattenhall Conservation Area,  this dilapidated cottage retained an inglenook fireplace and parts of the original 17th Century timber frame

  • Complex negotiations, including providing a heritage statement and detailed ‘enabling development’ evidence, achieved consent for an extension several times greater than normally permissible.
  • Extensive reconstruction and conservation works.
  • Extensive use of reclaimed materials including locally brick, slate and natural sandstone, complemented by green oak cladding.
  • Rooms containing heritage assets retained as smaller, more intimate, spaces; new extension more open and contemporary, with large areas of glazing capturing views and sunlight from the east and south.
  • Unified interior design combining new and existing exposed oak trusses and a restrained palette of joinery and paintwork.
  • Underfloor heating and sophisticated home automation systems.
  • South-facing terrace and pool reflect the linearity of the house and define the domestic curtilage.
  • Comprehensive landscape design and planting specification including ground remodelling, tree planting, new water body and meadow grass seeding to provide a naturalistic and dramatic setting.
