Royal Ordnance, Bishopton

Cass Associates prepared an initial regeneration strategy for this 950ha munitions site, one of the largest brownfield sites in the UK . This involved a thorough review of the economic and planning policy background, an extensive consultation programme, and a wide-ranging examination of the issues affecting the future of the site. This concluded that 30% of the site should be developed as an extension to the existing village of Bishopton , with 2,500 new homes, a business park, inward investment site and a range of community facilities, producing an enlarged and more sustainable settlement. This will generate the resources to remediate the rest of the site for a range of open space uses, including an attractive, diverse and ecologically rich landscape with a wide range of formal and informal recreation activities.
